June 4, 2008 Meeting
Tips and Tricks, Tumblr and Flickr - Brian Foley and Mark Dye

First Co-Librarian Mark Dye took us on a tour of free video podcasts with tips for beginners and more experienced users on how to use the iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, GarageBand and iDVD) and OS 10.5 Leopard and more. He showed us several samples of his favorites, which were very good indeed, and just scratched the surface of what is available at no charge through the iTunes Store. He's promised us a list of his favorites - we'll post them when we get them.

Then Program Co-Chairman Brian Foley showed us how easy it is to create our own weblogs at the Tumblr website. Tumblr is about the easiest way to communicate with friends and family. You need absolutely no experience to us it, and it’s fun and addictive!

Brian also gave us a quick look at Flickr, the photo-sharing service that works seamlessly with iPhoto. The audience wanted more, but we ran out of time. Brian promised to give us a more extended Flickr tour in the fall.

As always, the meeting began with a question and answer session and ended with refreshments and a door prize drawing for current members. MUG ONE library materials were available for circulation to MUG ONE members. Thanks to Mark and Brian for their fascinating presentations, and to everyone who came to learn and participate. What a great turnout!

April 2, 2008 Meeting
SUNY Oneonta's Computer Art Lab Tour - Sven Anderson

Our own Sven Anderson, assistant professor of art at SUNY Oneonta, took us on a hands-on tour of the Computer Art lab on April 2. Attendees were able to try out the amazing new Wacom Cintiq drawing tablets, which let you draw right on the screen with a pressure sensitive stylus, and see demos of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Corel Painter.

Many thanks to Sven for a fascinating and informative program.

March 5, 2008
Terry Does Taxes - Terry Helser

On Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m., Terry Helser introduced us to Lassiter’s TaxAct, Intuit’s TurboTax and H&R Block’s TaxCut software and gave a review of the pros and cons of each program, along with tips on filing electronically and what to expect if you are audited (Sven Anderson chimed in with some very interesting insights on this issue).

We rounded out the evening with Brian Foley's discussion of social networking sites and the online form that he has posted for program requests and member feedback

The meeting featured our usual question and answer session, refreshments (delicious chocolate chip walnut cookies baked by Wanda Helser) and a door prize drawing for members.
